In the twenty five years since its foundation, the Brothers Nobel Oil Company, Branobel, became one of the largest oil companies in the world; on the eve of the revolution it was the largest oil company in Russia. Branobel's base of operation, the Absheron Peninsula, was then the oil industry's global centre, and the company pioneered the design of pipeline and tanker transport, and storage facilities.
