The present example is number 107 of an annual series of 2000 pens, made in year 2000 to celebrate the Millenium. Marostica is a charming little town in the district of Vicenza, Italy, close to Montegrappa premises. It is surrounded by protective walls and it is famous for the Chess Game to be played with living figures. According to tradition, in 1454 the local Governor invented the living Chess Game as an ingenious way to let two aspirants contend for his daughter's hand. The story began to be portrayed in Marostica's central square in the 50's and every two years over 600 costumed figures rehearse professionally as chess pieces. The Game of Marostica has fascinated spectators all around the world and its antiquity has contributed to the mysterious aura that has formed around the chess.
