inscribed 'The Chaise Match Run on Newmarket Heath on Wednesday the 29th of August 1750./This Match was the Consequence of a Wager of 1000 Guineas laid by ye. Earls' of March & Eglintowne on the/one side With Theobald Toafe and Andrew Sprowle Esqres. on the other. That four Horses Should Draw a Carriage with/four Running Wheels with a Person in or upon it 19 Miles in one Hour which was Perfom'd in 53 Minutes & 27 Seconds/Three of the horses had won Plates & all bred & Train'd for Running. the Two Leading Horses including Riders, Saddles &c/Carried about 8 Stone each Wheel Horse about 7 Stone. the Chaise with the Boy that Rode in it weigh'd about 24 Stone.'
