A GEORGE III BRASS-BOUND MAHOGANY WINE COOLER

The plain neo-classical form and simple adornment of the present wine cooler recalls furniture supplied by Thomas Chippendale (d. 1779) to Paxton House, Berwickshire in circa 1776, in particular an octagonal cellaret with similar fluted frieze, oval paterae and panelled legs, part of a suite of dining room furniture comprising a pair of sideboard pedestals and vases and table (C. Gilbert, The Life and Work of Thomas Chippendale, 2009, vol. II, p. 79, fig. 124).
