A FRENCH ORMOLU-MOUNTED KINGWOOD VITRINE

The present vitrine is closely related to a Linke breakfront vitrine (No. 161), an example of which sold Christie's London, March 29, 2007, lot 72. Linke introduced a number of variations to this well referenced model, such as this one with shaped sides and central acanthus 'crab' mount. It is assumed that Linke first produced the model early in his career and Payne cites an entry for a similar vitrine in Linke's Blue daybook number 1-390, where it is titled as Bibliothque pour Jansen. A similar example sold Sotheby's, New York, 14 April 2008, lot 331 ($37,000).
