專家說明

Capable in every style, here Carrier-Belleuse applies the fashion for genre sculpture to a Medieval subject. Depicting a damsel dressed in wimple and robes dreamily leafing through her book, she is made to look all the more delicate by the use of fine ivory to the face and hands. The model was produced in three sizes, this being the largest. Another is in the collection of Lotherton Hall, Leeds Museums and Galleries.
