專家說明

John Sloan executed this work in 1914 in Gloucester, Massachusetts, where he spent many summers painting. Being in Gloucester provided Sloan with the freedom to explore new concepts and painterly techniques. Sloan remarked, "I had been dependent on waiting for the inspiration to paint a picture because I had so little leisure time to work for myself. So I decided to save up enough money to take off a few months, go to the country and work from nature, to get fresh ideas about plastic design and color rhythms." (J. Sloan, Gist of Art, New York, 1939, p. 29)
