專家說明

Blubber Island, also known to locals as Blubber Butt, is a small body of land located off the coast of Port Clyde, Maine, where N.C. Wyeth's home, Eight Bells, and studio were located. Wyeth painted several views of the island, including Blubber Island (1938, National Academy Museum, New York) and Blubber Island, Port Clyde, Maine (1944, Brandywine River Museum, Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania). The present work, painted circa 1922-1930 is the artist's earliest depiction of the island.
