With Patek Philippe Certificate of Origin dated 9 July 1928 and stamped by Patek, Philippe & Co Inc, 607 Fifth Ave - 49th Street New York and original fitted brown leather presentation box. Furthermore delivered with Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production of the present watch in 1922 and its subsequent sale on 9 July 1928.
Absolutely fresh to the international auction arena and never been offered publically before, this "carré galbé" (or cushion-shaped) wristwatch is a very fine example of Patek Philippe's early wristwatch production. Whereas the main body of the case is of very modern lines there are still many remnants of the earlier pocket watch production, notably the enamel dial and the hinged cuvette.
The example here brings the best of many worlds together and the list of rare features renders it an incredibly rare specimen. Our research shows that only eight early cushion-shaped wristwatches with center seconds are known to have survived of which only two feature the ultra-rare enamel dial. This example here comes furthermore with its original certificate dated 1928, a rarity in of itself.
Few wristwatches by Patek Philippe epitomize better the style of the roaring 20's and the firm's active approach to push the development of the wristwatch further.
