According to the archives of Breguet, the present watch has been called "compteur à pointage, nouveau modele" n.557 has been sold to Pixu on 21st December 1846, for the sum 280 Fr.FR.
The present watch is a very nice and rare example of an inking chronograph, which was invented by famous French watchmaker Nicolas Mathieu Rieussec (1781-1852) in 1821. Rieussec's inking chronograph was further developed and perfected by Frederick Louis Fatton, one of Breguet's most talented workmen. Other watchmakers and watchmaking companies also developed their own versions. For further examples of inking chronographs see lots 62, 64 to 66, as well as a model brass escapement for an inking chronograph lot 67.
