A red polyester and grey lacquered steel chair 'Fauteuil no. 416'

In 1956, A.R. Cordemeyer was appointed at Gispen. He joined the team with Wim Rietveld, Gerrit's son who succeeded W.H. Gispen in 1953. Cordemeyer and Rietveld led to the introduction of the plastic furniture at Gispen. Together they designed armchair No. 416: this was made of polyester, and one of the first industrially manufactured plastic chairs in the Netherlands. The marketing campaign referred to the chair as the 'Stravinsky among chairs'. Wim Rietveld left the Gispen compagny on 30 June 1957.

The chair on offer was part of the interior of the Rietveld home at Vredenburg in Utrecht.
