A DUTCH BEECHWOOD AND RED PAINTED ARMCHAIR
Designed by Gerrit Th. Rietveld (1888-1964) in 1942, most probably executed by Moolenbeek & Partners, 1940s
The frame, back and seat constructed from slats, the armrests and legs with typical dovetails and mortise-and-tenon joints, the remains of red paint probably later, and with traces of white paint underneath
77 cm. high x 52 cm. wide x 54 cm. deep

By repute acquired directly from Moolenbeek in Utrecht by the father (b. 1923) of the present owner shortly after 1945.

專家說明

In M. Küper and I. van Zijl, Gerrit Th. Rietveld 1888-1964, Het volledige werk, Utrecht, 1990, another example of this design (in oak) is illustrated as number 345 and entitled Stoelen en banken voor de Nederlandsche Bank. The authors state that the chairs were supplied by Moolenbeek & Partners and that the slats become thinner during the years due to wood being scarce. This might also explain the use of beech for the chair on offer.
