CASE: with arched top surmounted by a planetary sphere, the swept fluted angles with bronze patinated rams masks suspending fruiting swags centred by a bacchic mask beneath the convex glazed bezel, elements variously later stamped 'F' or 'S' DIAL: white enamel with pierced and engraved gilt hands and signed 'VERNEAUX A PARIS' MOVEMENT: the five pillar movement with twin barrels, pinwheel escapement and countwheel strike to bell, repeat signature to back plate; pendulum

A case of the same design with dial signed by Stollewerck is illustrated in P. Kjellberg, Encyclopédie de la Pendule Française, Paris, 1997, p. 174, fig. E.

The D'Olmo family is recorded in Venice from the 12th Century. Moving to Lugo di Romagna and later ennobled by Pope Martin V in 1410. In the second half of the fifteenth century the family moved to San Remo. They received the titles of Marquis d'Olmo, later Duke, from the Royal House of Savoy.
