A finely bound copy of the first and only Aldine edition. Poet at the court of emperor Honorius, much of Claudianus' poetry celebrates Honorius, his deeds, ministers and marriage. His best known work, however, is the Rape of Proserpine, a retelling of the mythological story of the abduction of Proserpine by Pluto. Adams C-2073; Ahmanson-Murphy 218; Renouard 96.1.
