The daughter of John of Gaunt and Constance of Castile, Catherine's marriage to the king of the Trastàmara line, Henry III in 1588 (when she was 15 and her husband 9 years old), reconciled the two rival claims to the throne of Castile. She was regent during the minority of her son, John II, who inherited the throne aged one and a half. (2)
