CASE: the cushion moulded top with foliate clasped handle above projecting mouldings, the conforming plinth on bun feet DIAL: the 7 inch dial with later gilt-metal spandrels to chapter ring with sword hilt half hour markers, matted centre with ringed winding holes, mock pendulum aperture and date square, blued steel hands MOVEMENT: with five latched pillars and twin chain fusees, verge escapement, strike on bell and pull repeat with six hammers and six bells, the backplate engraved with entwined foliage and signed 'Johann Adam Carls Cronna' and with a town mark stamped three times; engraved winding key, case key

The city of Karlskrona was founded in 1680, named after King Charles or Carl XI. It was strategically sited as the base for the Royal Swedish Navy being close to German and Baltic states whilst avoiding the winter ice of Stockholm.
