專家說明

Like her mentor, Manuel Álvarez Bravo, Graciela Iturbide is best-known for her pictures of her native country, Mexico, particularly its indigenous population. Her important series, 'Women of Juchitan', was a decade-long project begun in 1979 in Juchitan, a Zapotec Indian town, notable for the dominance of women in both commercial and political spheres.

Major retrospectives of her work have been held at Museo de Arte Contemporneo de Monterey, Mexico in 1996 and at The Philadelphia Museum of Art in 1997-1998. She was the recipient of a Eugene Smith Grant in Humanistic Photography in 1987 and a Guggenheim Memorial Fellowship in 1988.
