Engraved with the hours for latitudes 52, 49, 46 and 43, the inset compass with sixteen compass points, blued-iron needle with glazed cover, the center signed Butterfield Paris, the folding gnomon with bird-shaped pointer, and graduated 40-60, the underside engraved with latitudes for thirty-one continental cities and towns; with contemporary case covered in fishskin and lined in green filt
