Smith and Sons - (England) Samuel Smith opened a jeweler's shop about 1851 at Newington Causeway, where he sold clocks and watches. Under Smith's son the business changed names to S. Smith & Son Ltd. and began supplying "motor watches" for cars. Soon thereafter, in 1904, they produced a speedometer. In 1914 the company changed direction again, moving into motor accessories.
