The owner of the Mo Gui Tang collection Li Qiaofeng was born in 1921 in Guangdong. With a passionate love for Chinese paintings and calligraphy, Li studied under the tutelage of many artists, particularly Zhang Daqian. During Zhang Daqian's visits to Hong Kong, Li would play host to him and spend time together discussing the arts.

愛，造就他筆下獨具韻律和生命力的荷花。他從
年輕時就對荷花懷有濃厚興趣，並一生鍾情於此
創作題材。上世紀30年代，無論在蘇州網獅園還
是在北京頤和園的昆明湖，張大千都細心觀察荷
花的生長姿態。他甚至將荷花的種子隨身帶到了
巴西和美國。
張大千善於運用各種繪畫技法來表現荷花的各個
部分，以達到平衡整個畫面的效果，重墨附著的
荷葉與荷花的優雅相映襯，幼長的花徑支撐著頂端
的蓮花和蓮蓬。這些都反映出張大千的繪畫理念：
“中國畫重在筆墨，而畫荷則體現出其精髓。”
