專家說明

The accompanying faxed letter explains how the writer [Helen Anderson] was given this drawing, along with several others by her close friend John Lennon, during their time together at the Liverpool Institute of Art. She explains that Lennon gave her several drawings namely,We're Just Good Friends, I Do, But I Do Love You Dear and Pencil Monster, as payment for the work she did for him, such as making his leather jacket and turning his trousers into drainpipes. Anderson goes on to explain that she was good friends with Cynthia (Powell) from the age of 12 and remained friends with Lennon after Art College, to the extent that when she went into the fashion business she continued to make him numerous items of clothing. More of Helen Anderson's recollections, along with an illustration of the drawing 'I Do' are published in Ray Coleman's definitive biography of Lennon.
