Cornelis Uyterweer (Rotterdam 1702-1782) was one of the most influential Dutch watch and clock makers of his time. Head of the Rotterdam Clockmaker Association, he also served as guildmaster on nine occasions between 1749 and 1769, followed by his son Pieter serving on four occasions between 1775 and 1780.
Cornelis Uyterweer's watches are distinguished by the unusual, decorative balance cocks, often with mock pendulum, and the finely made repoussé cases.
Cornelis Uyterweer's watch no. 480 with similarly decorated silver balance cock and mock pendulum is on permanent exhibition in the Museum Rotterdam. Other examples of his work can be found in the Dutch Gold, Silver and Clock Museum in Schoonhoven, the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, the Museum of the Dutch Clock in Zaandam, Museum 'Het Princessehof' in Leeuwarden and in the Guildhall of London.
