SUSAN DERGES (B. 1955)

Born in 1955, Susan Derges is most widely recognized for works of 'camera-less photography', such as the present example which bears out her belief that "the camera always separates the subject from the viewer" . A former pupil at the Slade School of Art, she moved to Japan in 1981, remaining there for four years and carrying out post-graduate research at the Tsukuba University.
Her camera-less photography inspired by the natural world often invokes a spiritual or inward-looking response from the viewer.
