AN IMPORTANT MAP OF GEORGIA, the cartouche stating that it was drawn up in St. Petersburg in 1738 from local observations, translated from Georgian into French by the secretary to the King of Georgia, and first published in 1766 by De L'Isle. The cartographer had taken service in Russia, founding the Academy of Sciences in St. Petersburg, and working with Kirilov on the first atlas of Russia, Atlas Russicus (1745), before returning to Paris in 1747.
