專家說明

William Beattie exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1829 to 1867 and at the British Institute from 1834 to 1848. He designed a silver vase representing 'The Triumph of Science and the Industrial Arts' for Elkington & Co at the Great Exhibition of 1851. The present lot relates to the four statuettes of Newton, Bacon, Shakespeare and Watt decorating the body of this vase commemorating Astronomy, Philosophy, Poetry and Mechanics.
