專家說明
A version of this portrait type, formerly in the possession of Mr. Arthur Kay, was identified as of William Lenthall, Speaker of the House of Commons (unsigned, oil on canvas, 30 x 25 in.). A three-quarter-length portrait of Lenthall in the robes of the Master of the Rolls, by an unknown artist after 1643, shows Lenthall with thicker, darker hair and a straighter nose (National Portrait Gallery, London). However, Samuel Cooper's miniature portrait of Lenthall of 1652 (National Portrait Gallery, London) suggests a similar profile to the present portrait.
