Accompanied by a 19th century fitted box.

According to literature, Peter Dutens worked in Leicester Square, London, England between 1759 - 65. Use of the châtelaine originates from the Middle Ages when ornamental hooks were suspended from skirts and everyday items such as watches, purses and thimbles were attached by hooks. Serving dual purposes as utilitarian accessories and decorative ornaments, this particular châtelaine with its beautiful agate panels and ornate hand engraved yellow gilt detailing is a superb example of an eighteenth century châtelaine.
