The tureen shaped oval, on four acanthus scroll feet, with two acanthus-clad handles, engraved on one side with the Cyrillic intials 'AN' for Alexandra Nikolaevna beneath an Imperial crown and with the Imperial double-headed eagle on the other, the interior gilt, the conforming stand with shaped scrolling acanthus rim, on four knob feet, marked under bases

專家說明

Grand Duchess Alexandra Nikolaevna (1825-1844) was the third daughter of Emperor Nicholas I and Charlotte of Prussia and sister of the future Emperor Alexander II. Alexandra married Prince Frederick William of Hesse (1820-1864) in 1844 and died in childbirth later that same year.

A comparable soup tureen and ladle by Carl Tegelsten, engraved with the initials of Grand Duchess Olga Nikolaevna (1822-1892), sister of Alexandra, was sold Christie's, London, 29 November 2006, lot 226.
