專家說明
Thomas Jackson started life in the construction industry as an illiterate navvy, working on canals from the tender age of eight. He worked his way up the profession, eventually becoming a subcontractor in 1838 and going into business with Mr Bean, forming the company Jackson & Bean. Together with the civil engineer James Walker, Jackson & Bean were awarded contracts to build the harbours of refuge in both Jersey and Guernsey.
