專家說明
The present table closely adheres to a design by John Linnell of circa 1762, now in the Victoria and Albert Museum and illustrated here (see C. Musgrave, Adam and Hepplewhite and other neoclassical Furniture, London, 1966, fig. 36). The portrait medallion and robust fluted legs also appear on a design for an armchair, circa 1768-1770 (H. Heyward and P. Kirkham, William and John Linnell, London, 1980, p. 43, fig. 83). Portrait medallions feature on a number of notable Linnell works of various forms, including the magnificent giltwood sofa in the State Drawing Room at Kedleston Hall (op. cit., fig. 34) and a set of eight lyre-back armchairs in the Library at Osterley Park, c. 1773 (ibid., fig. 64).
