專家說明

The 'C' couronné poinçon was a tax mark employed on any alloy containing copper between March 1745 and February 1749.

The vigorously scrolling design of these candlesticks relates to the celebrated drawings for candlesticks by Sebastien-Antoine Slodtz (1655-1726). Various related examples in gilt-bronze bear the C couronné poinçon and are typified by their extremely fine chasing reminiscent of goldsmith's work. The present pair is in fact entirely made as a silver or gold candlestick, with a repoussé base and chased with finer tools than those used by ciseleurs.
