Douglas Gordon (b. 1966)

From the series Self-Portraits of You + Me (Bond Girls), Gordon explores and distorts the iconic beauty of some of the best known sex symbols of the 20th Century. Through the use of fire and smoke, these once adorned photographs of Jane Seymour from Live and Let Die (1973) and Fiona Fullerton from A View To A Kill (1985) have been manipulated to reveal jagged crenulations of the mouth and eyes. The passages omitted by the artist's flames forcibly transpose your own face into the cavernous areas via the mirrored underlying surface whereby creating a haunting juxtaposition between image and reality.
