The Royal Oak collection was introduced in 1972 and it redefined the definition of a sports watch. The groundbreaking design with its octagonal shape, use of refined steel and distinctive screwed bezel radiates an air of sophisticated ruggedness. The aesthetic premise is history laden - the octagonal design is inspired by the portholes of the steadfast Royal Navy ships and its name is derived from the tree that once concealed King Charles II in his time of need. Hence this timepiece evokes notions of strength, trust and history.

Since then, the Royal Oak has become one of the signature styles of Audemars Piguet, and to celebrate the 30th birthday of the original model, the Royal Oak Concept watch was launched. In keeping with the characteristics of the pioneering model, the most technologically advanced movement and materials are used. The extremely durable and light timepiece is crafted from ceramic, titanium, blackened aluminum and PVD-coated steel, housing the outstanding Calibre 2895. The rapid rotation twin barrel system provides 237 hours of power reserve, an indicator allows for crown function selection, and the tourbillon escapement is integrated into the dial. Most exciting of all, is the linear chronograph minute counter which appears as a double vertical scale with an open worked bridge. It is technical developments such as these, which has led to many horological connoisseurs holding Audemars Piguet responsible for the renaissance of the mechanical watch.
