Abdul Hadi El-Gazzar (Egyptian, 1925 - 1965)
拍品 19 Lots 19 and 20 are two works from of a four-piece series created in 1959 in Rome from parts of a large painting. They show very clearly the influence of Italian abstract and futurist styles which affected El-Gazzar's work during his stay, and are amongst the earliest examples from the third stage in his career. El-Gazzar could not easily transport the large work back to Egypt and so cut it into four equal parts. Having shipped it back to Cairo he reworked each into a separate abstract composition.
Each one depicts an imaginary universe where scale and clarity of form come secondary to speed and movement. Moons, planets, radar dishes and machinery appear within mesh-like like patterns resembling radio masts, beams of electromagnetic energy and the movement of celestial bodies and objects. These web-like elements prefigure those in much of El-Gazzar's work of the 1960s, making these paintings the precursor to his final and most unusual series, the World of Space.
