專家說明

The huge variety and volume of Windsor chair making in the Thames Valley region through the 19th century is well documented. The underarm decorative splats that mirror the pattern of the back splats is a design feature exclusively used by Robert Prior of Uxbridge (fl.1810-1845) and many were stamped ROBERT PRIOR MAKER UXBRIDGE. The stamp R.PRIOR on one chair here is most unusual and has been recorded only once before, on a chair in A Cotswold Legacy 1932-2008, The Property of H.W.KEIL, Broadway, Bonhams, 25 October 2008, Lot 72 and is most likely the stamp for the tools of the business.
