Signed portraits in oils and crayon are known by F. Lindo in lowland Scotland and Aberdeenshire. The present examples were presumably painted in Northumberland, extending the geographical range of the artist beyond what was previously known of him. Said to be a pupil of Francis Hayman (Devon c.1708-1776 London), the present portraits by Lindo are in their original carved and pierced gilded frames and hung in the Drawing Room at Newton Hall, Northumberland.
