Shaped circular with openwork lattice, rocaille and cast chinoiserie mask border, on four similarly cast panel feet, engraved with a coat-of-arms within chinoiserie cartouche surround, further engraved beneath with a crest, marked underneath

The arms are those of the See of Canterbury impailing Hutton for Archbishop Matthew Hutton (1693-1758).

專家說明

Matthew Hutton became the Bishop of Bangor in 1743 and the Archbishop of York in 1747. He ascended to the position of Archbishop of Canterbury in 1757, suggesting that his arms were engraved on the present salver two years after it was originally commissioned.
