Maker's mark IBI in oval, Batavia, first quarter 18th Century
The pear-shaped body supported on three scroll feet joined by pierced panels and shell- and scroll ornaments, the lower body fitted with three taps between shell ornaments, below the engraving Ter Gedacht-V-Wijlen Zijn Edelh-Henric Zwaardecroon, oud gouv-generaal v-Nederl-India. geboor-Binnen Rotterd-den-26-Jan-1667 overl-tot Bat-den-12-e en begr-den-16-Augusti-1728, the upper body with cut-card floral ornaments, surmounted by lambrequins and two swing scroll handles, the cover moulded with knop finial, slightly warped, some dents and scratches, marked to the base

Henrick Zwaardecroon (26 January 1667-12 August 1728) was Governor-General of the Dutch East Indies from 1718 until 1725.

For a similar Dutch coffee-pot see Dr. J.R. ter Molen, Zilver- catalogus van de voorwerpen van edelmetaal in de collectie van het Museum Boymans-van Beuningen, Rotterdam, 1994, p. 158-159 where a coffee-pot by the Amsterdam silversmith Pieter de Keen is illustrated. Another coffee-pot by the same maker is in the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, see Jan Rüdolph de Lorn, Amsterdams Goud en Zilver, Zwolle, 1999, p. 101, nr. 48.
