A porcelain cup and saucer
by the Imperial Porcelain Factory, St Peterbsurg, 1814-1820
Of tapering cylindrical form, with a flaring rim and on spreading foot, the body painted with a continuous multi-coloured miniature, painted after Swebach, depicting a Bashkir camp with its inhabitants and horses, with two Tatars selling a Bashkir racing horse of Arabian breed in the foreground, framed by thick upper and lower gilt bands with a ciselé foliate design, the white ground circular saucer decorated with gilt, in the centre a stylized flower, framed within a laurel wreath garland, the outer border with a stylized foliate design and painted with green detail, with gilt rim, apparently unmarked
Cup 4 in. (10.2 cm.) high, 6½ in. (16.5 cm.) diameter (2)
