FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR to Anna Feigin, in Russian: 'To dear, beloved Aniuta, from the author. Berlin 1928'. Anna Feigin was Vera's cousin and lived with the Nabokovs for extended periods. Together the three bought land in Wolziger See, which became the setting for the murder in Despair. Nabokov's second novel was very warmly received; its success allowed Vladimir and Vera to clear their debts and to take their first butterfly expedition in the Pyrenées. Juliar A9.1.
