LONDON, CIRCA 1757, MAKER'S MARK IC INCUSE
Shaped oval, the sides cast and chased with foliage scrolls and flowers on a matted ground, heightened with Masonic symbols, the top engraved with a coat-of-arms, all surrounding and enamel plaque, the back engraved with a further coat-of-arms and an inscription, marked on the back
5 in. (13 cm.) high
The inscription reads 'The Gift of the Sea Capts Lodge To Thos Marriott Perkins AD 1757'

The Sea Captain Lodge of Sunderland was found in 1757, the year of the presentation of the jewel to Thomas Marriott Perkins. A document in Sheffield Record Office (TT/100/20) dated 4 October 1794 records 'Thomas Marriott Perkins, of Walker House, in the chapelry of Bradfield, co. Yorks., gent., eldest son and heir of Thomas Marriott Perkins, of Mosquito Shore, N. America, merchant, decd. intestate, who was himself the son of the Rev. John Perkins, nephew of Benjamin Marriott, late of Ughill, gent., decd.'.
