專家說明

This is almost certainly a study for the portrait by Boxall, exhibited at the Royal Academy, London, 1859, no. 81. It was given by Queen Victoria to Princess Louise in 1899. For many years the picture was considered to be a study by John Phillip for his portrait of the Prince Consort painted for The Town Council of Aberdeen and exhibited in the Royal Academy, London, 1858, (no. 78) and was recorded as such in Acquistions made by Queen Victoria, 1827-1862, p. 73, Inventory (no. 780).
