The watch with keywound gilt-finished cylinder movement, 8 jewels, white enamel dial, Roman numerals, the booklet of rectangular form, finely chased, engraved, white and green champlevé enamel floral and foliage decorated sides and spine, oval hinged cover to the front with a painted polychrome enamel Italian scene depicting a gentleman and three ladies sharing a picnic in the country, signed PP., opened by a slide, similarly painted landscape scene depicting two hunters, a lady and a child, signed Prochet, also opened by a slide and revealing a blank compartment, chased and engraved gold pencil, the end set with a burgundy hardstone, cuvette signed

The Oudin dynasty of watchmakers begun with Charles Oudin, a renowned watchmaker and student of Breguet, who established his workshop in Paris at the Palais Tribunat in 1804, then at the Galerie de Pierre from 1810-20. He was succeeded by his son Jean-Charles and Jean-Charles's cousin Joseph Oudin. The house of Oudin specialized amongst others in finely enamelled and jewelled watches, snuff boxes with watches and form watches.

Philippe Prochietto, called Prochet, (Geneva 1825-1890), was a pupil of the renowned Swiss enamel painter G. Lamunière. Prochietto was himself known as an excellent enamel miniature artist who often worked for the famous gold box maker Charles Bruguier. Besides portraits he painted on enamel very fine copies after Old Masters. Examples of his work can be seen in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Geneva.
