專家說明

In 1935, Eric Ravilious was invited by the then publicity officer of London Transport, Christian Barman, to design printed imagery for the campaign to promote London's Green Line Coaches. The present lot depicts the four images used to promote the routes to Chalfont St. Giles, Crawley, Great Bookham and Whipsnade.
The further set of five engravings were some of Ravilious's head and tail piece images used to illustrate a series of pamphlets on 'Country Walks', written by Robert Harling. On Ravilious's graphic work Harling notes "his pre-occupation with the interplay of light and shadow...with this problem he was as unceasingly engrossed, as were the early impressionists". (T. Mainstone, Away We Go! Advertising London's Transport: Edward Bawden and Eric Ravilious, Norwich, 2006, p. 16.)
