拍品 82 André Metthey is best known as a French ceramist, although he was initially a painter, sculptor and interior designer. He opened a ceramic studio in 1901 in Asnières producing work inspired by Japanese, Korean and Persian pots. He seems to have been introduced to the artists Matisse, Bonnard, Derain, Vuillard and Redon, who all decorated works for him, by his friends the art dealer Ambroise Vollard and Théodore Duret, the critic and art historian. He repeatedly fired his works in order to achieve a richness of colour in the glazes and also a craquelure effect.
