FÉLIX VALLOTTON (1865-1925)

Seit 1903 wohnte Félix Vallotton im 16. Arrondissement in Paris, unweit des Bois de Boulogne in Neuilly-sur-Seine. Täglich ging der Künstler im Bois de Boulogne spazieren, wobei der heute 'Mare Saint-James' genannte 'lac Saint-James' in allen Jahreszeiten zu seinen Lieblingsplätzen gehörte. Unser Gemälde L'île du lac Saint-James entstand 1922. Das Schwanenpaar auf der linken Bildseite wird, wie auch die Bäume auf der Insel, von der glatten Wasseroberfläche des lac Saint-James gespiegelt.

Since 1903 Félix Vallotton lived in the 16th Arrondissement in Paris, nearby the Bois de Boulogne in Neuilly-sur-Seine. Each day the artist went walking in the Bois de Boulogne at 'Mare Saint James', then so-called 'lac Saint James', which ranked, in all seasons, among his favourite places. Our painting L'île du lac Saint-James originated in 1922. The pair of swans on the left is reflected, like the trees on the island, on the smooth water surface of lac Saint James.
