Robert and Nicolas Descharnes have confirmed the authenticity of this work.

This work is a preparatory drawing for the advertisement for the series of lithographs (Michler & Löpsinger nos. 1345-1350) that Dalí executed in 1971 as a tribute to Currier & Ives.
