專家說明

The present work is sold with the cheque made out to Captain Lawrence Whistler and dated January 29th 1946. Reginald John 'Rex' Whistler was killed by a shellburst near the village of Le Mesnil on the 18th July 1944 - just hours into his active service. The present work appears to be a set or stage design, though the subject is unknown. Whistler designed scenery for the operas Fidelio and The Marriage of Figaro (1934) and Oscar Wilde's An Ideal Husband (1943) amongst other projects.
