KARL STRUSS (1886-1981)
拍品 41 This graphically sophisticated vision of New York -- with the silhouettes of tall buildings rising into a twilight sky and overlaid by a grid of cables -- marks an early manifestation of Modernism in the photographic interpretation of the city. Struss enjoyed the craft subtleties of the platinum process that one might more readily associate with the painterly romanticism of Secessionist photography, but his eye was independent and forward-looking and, as evidenced in this image, resolutely modern.
