A LADY'S BELLE EPOQUE DIAMOND WRISTWATCH

Edmond Jaeger (1850-1922) was the principal supplier of watches to Cartier, who signed a contract with Jaeger in 1907 giving them exclusive rights to his output. In 1909 Cartier and Jaeger were the first to create the buckle deployant clasp, which was considered more practical than the traditional watch strap.

While this watch is not signed by Cartier, all the other characteristics point to it being made by them, including the tonneau-shaped dial with delicate tulip shoulders and the recently invented buckle deployant clasp, numbers to the reverse and the maker's mark of Edmond Jaeger clearly seen on the side of the watch as well as on the clasp.
